Cost-share and match calculator

Funders define matches differently. Enter the funder’s request and the match rate, and this shows the required match both ways. Nothing leaves your browser.

Your numbers
If the match is a % of the funder’s share$0
If the match is a % of the total project$0
Cash still needed (larger case)$0

Example: a 50% share of the total project equals a 1:1 match. Check the notice for which definition applies. Read cost share explained.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as in-kind?

Goods or services contributed without cash, such as donated space, equipment use or volunteer time, valued and documented under the funder’s rules.

Can I use another grant as match?

Sometimes. Many funders allow other non-federal funds, but US federal rules generally do not let one federal award match another unless a statute allows it.
